I have a four year old basic model Macbook that has reached the end of it's life span. It's seen many good years, made it through university... but now the screen has reached an unfortunate, cracked end.
Here's my plan for it now. I want to make it nothing more than a giant remote controlled iPod. I have a pair of medium-high quality computer speakers plugged in to them and, at the moment, it's plugging into my TV. I control it through every other Apple device in the household that either I or my family own - from iPod Touch's to iPhones. It works well.
I want to reduce it's power consumption to nearly nothing... mostly because I don't want the fan to turn on as often as possible.
How can I disable any display output it has with software? I control it through remote-desktop as it is now, and it outputting a signal to my TV uses power. If I unplug the output leading to the TV, it just goes to sleep or tries to use it's own broken screen.
tl;dr: I have an old macbook with the latest OSX. I want to reduce power consumption to nearly nothing, while still retaining audio-out capabilities to be used with the Remote iPhone/touch app. How can I turn off any display outputs so it's only accessible with Remote Desktop?
