Macbook retina base vs high end

Hi everyone,

I need some help with choosing between the base and high end model. My usage is:

Internet, VLC playing 1080p mkv files, Photoshop doing some minor editing, encoding some 720p videos occasionally and some music.

I have an external 3 TB HDD so i think I am ok with 256gb hard drive. Other than that, do you guy think i would need more than 8GB ram, faster processor and more specifically Nvidia 750m?

Basically I want to do above-mentioned tasks, lag free.

So Kindly help me wit some advice.

Are external hard drives good or is it better to get the higest SSD? right now I have the 256gb and I'm not sure if I should upgrade it for more storage space or if I should just get the external hard drive.
