If I have a sealed macbook pro without receipt can I return it at apple store for store credit?

does it make a difference if it was originally purchased at an apple store or somewhere else?

would they know the difference?

thanks.

I doubt you'd get store credit but its worth a try I guess... you never know.

So basically, you've bought this machine on eBay or somewhere and you're trying to sell it back to the Apple Store for full price? Fraud...

You will not be able to take it back without a receipt, as otherwise they can just presume it was bought somewhere else, and they don't have to offer a refund/credit as they DO sell their products elsewhere. Just keep the unit..

i don't have the unit.

found a deal for $1500 macbook pro i5 sealed on craigslist but he bought it from bestbuy.

i was hoping to return the unit and get the 13 inch macbook and pocket the cash.. oh well.

I think Apple knows by serial number where a unit was sold. They would probably know it was sold at Best Buy.

Why don't you try returning to Best Buy ?

This deal smells and sounds like fish all over it. If someone has got an new, sealed-in-box i5, why don't they return it themselves. Caveat emptor.

I guarantee that he didn't buy it legitimately from BB. These Craigslist sellers are plentiful throughout North America.

If a seller is offering a brand new and sealed Mac without a receipt, you can be sure confident that

(A) it was stolen, possibly from a warehouse
(B) it was purchased with a stolen credit card.

Let me guess. He got it for his birthday?

yeah his "uncle" got it for him.

seems fishy.. but it's a pretty good deal.

Probably won't end up bothering on second thought

thanks for the input.
