i came home one day to find my macbook screen cracked. there was no sign of damage on the screen or casing. however, my idiotic mother, had covered the macbook completley in a duvet while it was running. i came to find my macbook FUMING!

do you lot have any idea why my screen cracked?

i found it unusual that the screen had cracked...maybe it was the heat? what do you guys think?

and has anyone experienced this before?

Probably the heat did it. The screen probably expanded while the screen's housing kept everything tight. Eventually, the screen will crack to releive the pressure.

Most likely, Apple will not cover the cost of the new screen, even if it was under warranty. It's accidental damage. You could try to see if Apple will cover it, but if they hear that it overheated because it was under a blanket, they'll probably deny the claim.

Another option would be to see if it was purchased with a premium credit card. Sometimes they have extended warranties or accident coverage.

Also, you may be able to get it covered under your homeowner's policy, but be careful in filing a claim on the HO Policy. It may drive up your insurance premiums.

That's his story and he's sticking to it.

cheers m8, ooo i had it insured with PC WORLD, and they've replaced the screen for me..took them 1 week. which was pretty good...just wanted to know the reason why it cracked...so i could blame my mother for being the cause of the screen. LOL

In defense of your poor mother, if the lid was down, she may not have known the computer was running. I know my mom wouldn't have.

Good luck getting it fixed.

Not very likely I'm afraid. It doesn't work like that, or else my 5 years spent on this engineering degree were a waste. Heat can certainly damage things but it's not going to cause the LCD to crack.
