Macbook screen issue

My daughter has dropped her 3 year old Macbook 13" resulting in the screen display reducing by 50%. The lower part of the screen is a mass of vertical lines whilst the top half is normal. I am wondering if a wire has come loose or if we need to buy a new screen.
