Hey all

My friend's new macbook keeps turning off every time she unplugs it from the charger, even when its fully charged. what is making it turn off and how can i stop it?

First, make sure the battery is seated correctly.

What is showing in the battery menu bar item? Is it showing a percentage (or saying how long until it's charged) or does the battery icon have an "X" through it?

took out the battery and put it back in, and there's still an X

ok i will, thanks you very much.

one last thing, if i reset the smc, does it erase anything on the computer or harm it in any way? i'm just unfamiliar with those aspects of the computer.

Thanks again

I think you'll only have to reset your date/time preferences.

One other thing...does the battery show a charge when you push the test button on the actual battery?
