Hello - hope someone can help.

I have a 2016 MacBook which I am in the process of selling so need to reset it back to factory settings.

I have followed all of the online tutorials to remove iCloud, and iMessage and my iTunes acc, disk utility erase etc but now when I go to reinstall the OS, I get to the macOS Sierra screen, click continue and then it says to download and restore macOS the eligibility needs to be checked and verified with .

I hit continue but nothing happens.
I’ve tried to google it but it seems like I need some sort of hardware item to boot it? Disk or drive or something? I don’t have the box anymore so no idea what it is I need or how I go about doing this?

These are the images I’m seeing:

Sorry if a silly question. At a bit of a loss...

Thanks in advance.

Anyone know of anything to help here?

Last Summer (2018) I bought a new MB with High Sierra installed. When asking a Mac-Sevice shop in Manila to install Sierra instead, they couldn't do it.
At home I started up form and external drive, set-up to install Sierra (Macworld recommended setup for creating external start-up/installation drive). I had no problems to install/downgrade my MacBook to Sierra. everything works fine - except the iTunes Player produce garbled screen, when playing movies, purchased with iTunes.

I hope this info helps. Happy new year, Bernd
[doublepost=1546337350][/doublepost]Actually I forgot to mention to mention that I reformatted the internal SSD before installation, Since High Sierra, as far as I know, is using different/new Apple format.

This might sound utterly silly but have after have have pressed "continue" on the dialog box "to download and restore..." , have you tried pressing "continue" again on the main install mac os sierra screen (first photo)?

The MacBook, I bought, had High Sierra installed. Downgrading to Sierra, there was no choice but to start up from an external and re-format the internal drive, because High Sierra has different formatting than Sierra. So, I didn't do the "download, restore and verify" thing, but I know that the Mac Service Center did, to no avail. You can't start up from the drive you need to format.

However, you may not have to downgrade your system, so the attached description, I got from somewhere on the internet, may help with your problem. If not, you should start-up from an external drive, re-format and do clean installation from an installer file on the external drive. Just search at Macworld for the guide on making an external installation drive for Sierra.

You need an internet connection, if not using Ethernet, click the Wi-Fi symbol to see if you are attached your home network, if not enter the credentials for your LAN and try pressing continue again.
