do i need to have my macbook plugged in when it is in sleep mode?

just curious as i see that the light on the front flashes slowly in sleep mode

also my mb is only 2 months old

No, but it still uses some power, so it will eventually shut down by itself. But if you're leaving it in stand by overnight, you don't have to worry about it.

I never turn off or reboot my MacBook unless I have to for updates.

Leave it in sleep mode all the time and it will be fine!

My daughter is taking my macbook to college. Does she need to shutdown the MB to drive from her apartment to school? Can she leave it in sleep mode and slide it into a fur lined nylon incase and zip it shut? Thanks!, Mick

ya, all moving parts (including the HD) are parked. so you won't do any more dammage while in sleep than you will while shut off.
