So I have a 2.4 blackbook with 4gb of ram. lately it has been slowing down. I downloaded onyx and ran that but it didnt really help. Any ideas that could help me out?

I used the migration assistant from a PPC mac to my current MacBook, my speed has been hobbled ever since. The last straw was when all of my network connections started experiencing 4-5 second lag, seemingly for no reason. I pulled out the install CD's and did an Archive & Install - that reinstalls the OS but leaves your files and apps in place. Fixed me up like a charm, only took an hour or so.

Do you have a lot of folders or files on your desktop? That can slow macs down a lot, it just acts like one big constantly on-demand finder window.

really? I've never heard that before.

I'm going to start cleaning off my desktop right now.

I have nothing on my desktop. I have 90gb free out of 250gb.
So if install my disk again, I can reload and leave all of my files there?
