Macbook slowing down

i just got my blackbook about 3 months ago and ive noticed that it has slowed down since i first got it. I would restart it and leave it on for a day and when I come home from work, I would get so much lag and the beachball alot, what can I do to fix this? I have mainmenu but I don't know what I should be using here.
