I've had my MB about a month now and I have noticed that when I start it up (I power down completely each time rather than sleep) it will make the start-up chime at varying volume levels each time. Is this normal or does it signify anything?

It is completely normal, it just plays the chime at the last volume level you left the computer. BTW why turning it off?? using sleep works perfectly, if you leave it for a lot of time then yes power it down, but if it is for less than one day use sleep, is much much faster.

Thanks Victor:) I usually use it every night when I get home from work for a few hours. I store it it my notebook-style backpack. I guess I power down because I always see the sleep light as it sill being "on" in some way and don't want to store it "on" in by bag. But I feel more comfortable now, I'll give it a shot. Thanks again.

Glad I could help:) You'll like the sleep mode better, it powers back on almost instantaneously and its keeps everything where you left it. I use shut-down for long trips (2 hours+) and when Im leaving my computer alone for a long time (more than 2 days) since sleep mode drains the battery at like 1% or less per hour.
