I found this forum with a Google search and I already read some threads on this topic and tried all the things suggested to no avail.

A few days ago my MacBook started making really loud noises on the left side mostly, and getting really hot so I figured something was wrong with the fans. I put an ice pack on it and it helped it cool/quiet down until I could take it to my tech guy the next day. He told me there are a lot of problems with the fans on these machines and that it would probably need to be replaced but he'd try just cleaning it first since he won't have the fans in stock til Wedneday. He cleaned it, and it seemed to work a lot better after that and be pretty much quiet.

I shut down my computer without any problems, and when I go to start it up it takes a long time for the Apple to appear and when it finally does it's just stuck on the Apple with the loading wheel. I've left it for as long as an hour and still it just sits there turning. I have looked on the forums and found a number of possible fixes, I have tried:

* fsck -fy

* SMC reset

* Safe Mode

* zapping P-RAM

Unfortunately the CD drive doesn't work (apparently another common problem with this model, and a $200 I didn't have to fix since I don't use it much), so I cannot try an Apple Install CD.

Any more suggestions?
