macbook takes 3 to 4 presses of the power button to power on

when i try and power on my 13 inch macbook pro i get a loud beep from my hard drive, i just bought a new hard drive today and installed it and i still get the same beep. the screen is always black when i try to do this. if i power on and off my macbook about 3 to 4 times it will finally boot into osx but i do not want to keep doing this, does anyone have any suggestion on what i could do to fix this?

edit: it only beeps once for about 2 seconds

Put the old back in and see what happens. Also do you have apple care?

i already had the old hard drive, which beeped and when i put the new hard drive in the newer one beeped too which tells me the problem is not related to the hard drive. my applecare ran out in the beginning of the summer

Oh man. I would see if i could get it checked for free with the stock HDD in it to get a estimate on cost of repair.
