I turn off the macbook, and it stays on the desktop picture for a really long time (no dock or menu bar is shown) for about an hour. Does yours do this? What do you suggest I do?

does this happen every time?

Well I mainly see it when I use it with an external monitor, keyboard, speakers, and mouse.

This happened with my Macbook...I went to Terminal in the Utilities folder and typed in: sudo periodic daily weekly monthy

then press return, it'll ask you for your password, type that in and wait a couple minutes until it prompts you again, then its done. This worked for me, its usually took 30-60 seconds to shut down and only the desktop showed with no icons or toolbar or dock on the desktop, but that fixed the problem, now it only takes 5 seconds 10 seconds tops to shut down

hopes this works for you

I got this prompt screen:

WARNING: Improper use of the sudo command could lead to data loss
or the deletion of important system files. Please double-check your
typing when using sudo. Type "man sudo" for more information.

To proceed, enter your password, or type Ctrl-C to abort.

Looks a bit like overkill, but wasn't this a system cleanup for Mac OS X TIGER?
