I'm new to mac and just bought the aluminum macbook 2.4 ghz, 13 in screen. I downloaded iStat and it sometimes the temp. of my macbook gets up to 160 degrees F, even when just surfing the internet for a while. It's sitting on a desk and nothing is blocking the vents. It doesn't feel that hot, but this can not be healthy for the CPU. Is this normal for the macbooks?

It can reach 160 sometimes when you are watching a video off the internet. Also check what other process are running.

Perfectly normal. Modern CPUs can go up to 200F with no damage. If you want a cooler notebook, look at adding smcFanControl and/or Coolbook Controller.

That seems hot to me. Mine rarely goes above 60 degrees when I'm surfing the internet/watching youtube and I usually have it on my lap.

I believe we're talking about 160ºF not 160ºC. And 160ºF is perfectly normal, I'm at 131 right now not really doing anything.
