To whoever can help...

Just got the new macbook connected to a newish Sharp Aquos HD tv. Done this with hdmi to dvi cable and adaptor all supplied by apple. Have the tv on HDMI2 channel and the image is great and worked out the mirroring etc... but...

NO SOUND. Have tried everything on the tv i can think of and found in the menu options.

Any ideas?

Do we really need to buy another cable to connect from headphones to sound input? surely this is not necessary?

Answers on a post card please..... much obliged...

hellhammer, much obliged but that is what i have. a mini displayport to dvi adaptor from the guy in the shop AND the HDMI cable. its all plugged in right! suggestions...?

in sound in system preferences in the OUTPUT menu the only option i have is "Built in speakers"

is there a way of telling the macbook to throw the sound out through the TV

much obliged to both...

The issue is that DVI cannot carry audio. Return them both and buy this and a normal HDMI cable. That kind of adapter can be had for less than 10 bucks from eBay if you want to save some $

DVI doesn't carry any sound. What you really need, if you indeed have the current line of Macbook, is a mini DisplayPort to HDMI adaptor, then an HDMI-HDMI cable to your TV.

If it's brand new, you might be able to take the cables back for an exchange.

no sound for internet streaming

Hi, I have just set up my macbook air with an adapter and HDMI cable, it works great for picture and has picture and sound when I play something (video or just audio track) that is stored on my hard drive. But when I try to watch something online it only plays the picture on my TV, no audio?? Any ideas why and how I can fix this problem. The main reason I set it up was to watch UK TV online while I am living and working abroad.

Thanks a lot
Olivia
