Hi,

I have an early Macbook (bought in..I think 2006-ish) and I would like to connect it to a Panasonic TV (42" G15 with 'Dolby Digital Plus decoder
Possible to decode Dolby Digital Plus audio track (multi-channel sound) and output as Dolby Digital multi-channel sound signal from DIGITAL AUDIO OUT terminal.').

I currently have a 'Apple Mini DVI to DVI Adapter' connected to a DVI to HDMI cable. From my forum perusing, I read that DVI doesn't transmit audio, so what cable do I need....

From the Panasonic user manual it tells me that it has audio out and a digital audio out... (whats the difference?)

many thanks
k

i recently connected my mb, with a hdmi to dvi connecter, to my hdtv lcd. for your audio question: the manaul probably meant it has an digital/analog inputs (outputs? i get confused). See what your tv has and get the right connections.

For me I use my audio out jack from my mb to rca cables (red&white) connected to a receiver, but i'm sure your tv has those connections too. Other than that if your tv has a digital audio you can get that too.

thanks @dnguyen

Just an update. The RCA cables worked.

[for reference]
Equipment.
-Panasonic p42g15
-Old white Macbook
-Apple Mini DVI to DVI Adapter
-DVI-D (male I think) to HDMI cable
-RCA

[instructions]
1. Apple Mini DVI to DVI Adapter connected to DVI-D to HDMI cable into HDMI port 1 (of 4)
2. In menu settings, change the thing to analogue..not digital
3. Plug the RCA cable into the component audio bit at the back of the tv (the bits labelled Pb and Pr).

No sound from RCA cables connected from Macbook to Sony Bravia TV

Hi

I have a Mini display port to HDMI cable that displays my macbook on my Sony Bravia Bx3 fine. However the 3.5mm 2xRCA cable that I have connected into the headphone port of macbook and tried all of the available ports for them on my tv knowing that the side of the tv is where they should go. And I still cant get sound. Its very frustrating as this is second time I have had this problem as Apple sent me home with optical fibre toslink cables which didnt work either.

Any help ASAP please
