my sister has a macbook, aluminum w/o a displayport, how would she hook that up to a tv?
 
If your sister's MacBook is aluminum, it has a Mini DisplayPort. Use a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter from Apple and use a DVI to DVI cable from the adapter to the TV. There are other cables available as well such as DVI to HDMI so a lot depends on your TV's input. An additional cable will be necessary for audio which again depends on your TV's input.
