Macbook "Transfer complete" sound With no transfer??????

This is a bit of a random one! My macbook keeps making the sound of moving something too or from an external harddrive, When i am not even using the computer!!! It is now happening probably once an hour.....Any ideas or people experiencing the same issue?????
