Macbook turned into giant magnet

Do not be afraid. Just close your eyes and take a deep breath.. and hold it until you fainted.
 
There's a magnet in the display which operates the sleep sensor switch (i.e. the little switch that tells the computer when you've closed the lids).

Tin foil hats off folks.
