I'm trying to connect my macbook to an old tube tv. When i connect with either a composite or s video cable, the picture just rolls down the screen in black and white. I read in a few places it has to do with the pal setting, but im in the US so i didnt think my tv was pal. I think i need to change the refresh rate to 50 hz, but I can't find any setting to do that or change the output to pal. Any ideas?

Open System Preferences and select Displays. If the screen on the TV is bad, you will need to select the button titled something similar to Gather Displays. That will move the settings box from the TV where you can't see or read it to the built in monitor. Within that settings box will be settings for the frequency and resolution of your TV set. I am not sure if 50 hz will be the correct setting, but you should be able to select them all until you find the one that works for you.

Good luck
