Hey everyone.

I went into my local Comet today to pick up a 2.4ghz Unibody Macbook. Now as some of you know last time i went in i tired 3 different Macbooks and each had some sort of issue with them. So i thought i would leave it a few weeks and check again to see if it was a bad batch or something. I went in today and tried a 4th Macbook and it still had a issue!

So now i'm asking unibody owners only to fill in this poll.

I really want a Macbook but I'm tempted to get the 2.1 white model as there seems to be so many problems with the new ones, the question is am i the only one?

Thanks everyone.

I got a Alu macbook when they came out. It was in perfect condition untill.

I trashed the G key from typing

Gogogogogogogogogogogogogogogogogogogogogog

and it broke...

Key snapped, so i took it in, and they gave me a BRAND NEW computer. I was like wow.. It's still in perfect condition. No slanted keys or anything.

I got the slanted F keys but I don't really mind. It's not even THAT slanted anyway. You only notice it if you're looking for it :p

This is bad news for me I went through 3 at my local Apple store, all with issues from the glass front, one with dust and two with smudges under the glass and was waiting to see if it was a manufacturing issue with certain batches and had cleared up. What was the problem with the fourth btw ?

I think a great majority of the people don't have any issues. You're only going to hear from the people that are having problems. Not many people are going to get on MR and tell people their MB is perfect.

But now that you've prompted me to, I have a 2.4 Unibody MB and it's flawless, I love it. I've had it for about a month now and no problems so far. I ordered from Amazon and saved a bundle.

Fourth has slanted keys and a loose battery cover. :(

That's really too bad... I got mine just after they first came out and it is flawless. I read about the slanted keys and loose battery cover and so I checked it when I received it, but it was fine.

Good luck in your quest.

EDIT: As a note I have the 2.4GHz model.

I didn't check mate so i couldn't tell you. I'm gonna go back tomorrow and try a fifth i think. I'll get the dates then.

its the third fourth and fifth digits of the serial number, should be on the receipt.

What issues are you finding on these because (IMO) the new models are FAR superior and the only reasons to get the last gen version are if you can't afford the $1299 or if you're heavily invested in FW.

My opinion is that you'd be foolish to get the old ones. I'm not saying you should ignore the complaints (like some out here encourage), but Apple is a good company when it comes to fixing legitimate issues. I got my wife a Unibody MB at launch and I'll let you pop off 5 keys, use a brillo pad on the lid and I'll still say that it's the best Mac out there in terms of value and performance. The old ones were fine machines but the new ones look better, run quieter, are built like tanks, and have an amazing video card. If you're looking to save money then get it at Amazon where you pay no tax and it's only $1229.

So far, so good!

I've read about all of the concerns that others have posted over and I've not come by any thus far!
(here's to keeping my fingers crossed that it stays that way!!)
