Hi everyone,

I have a macbook unibody (the very first one, not the newer 13" pro) that will only consistently boot from its boot disk when it's in a USB enclosure. I've done all manner of attempted fixes to it - reset PRAM, SMC, tried fsck in single user mode (sometimes it works, sometimes I get a disk i/o error), tried diskwarrior (got an error of 2351 half the time, and half the time it rebuilds correctly), and tried about 3 drives (clones of my original, which itself may be the problem).

The drive does boot internally on occasion, and will be great for sometimes an hour, sometimes a few days. But, inevitably, it'll freeze up, require a hard reset, and refuse to repair or rebuild for a while. Does anyone have any idea as to what the problem can be? I really hope it doesn't require replacing the hard drive controller or the whole logic board - I'm out of warranty by about 4 days (paycheck didn't come in enough time to buy applecare) and can't really afford the fix. Please advise, and thanks so much!
