Hi all,
I've recently got a black macbook. And yes... it moo's gently. Its not bad, I aint going to moan! But, as far as I can tell, all the macbook faults are simply software faults. The mooing could be fixed by telling the fans to trigger less etc.

So does anyone think there will be a macbook software update any time? Just like the iMac SMC update that was released 2 months or so after the iMac, that made my iMac into a totally different machine.

Anyway,
John

I'm sure Apple is working hard on one. But I hope it is soon, because I have kernel panics sometimes when I unplug my earphones.

they had a firmware fix for the moobook pros, so they should have one in the workd for the MB as well.

Kernal panics on a headphone input! It must be due to the combined port thing. Thats pretty random though.

I've had no problems with my blackbook. Although I think it could be a bit faster, i've maxed out the ram and running everything a skinny as possible. It just seems slower than my iMac 1.83.

The MB graphics and hard drive are certainly slower. Not sure about the FSB.

I have a Macbook Pro with the whine, and the EFI updates from Apple didn't help. But I came across a small program called MagicNoiseKiller, and as the name suggests, it actually completely eliminates the whine without utilizing the CPU, works like magic! :)

But to get it to work as of 10.4.6, you first have to run Photo Booth, then quit it, then run MagicNoiseKiller.

Usually if something sounds too good to be true, it is.

EDIT: I just read that using the BT mouse kills the whine. Is that true?

A friend of mine has a white macbook and if her fans didnt come on as often, i think it would burn a hole in the table, that thing gets waaay hotter than my powerbook.

Then again...her's doesnt moo or whine either..

I've had the headphone kernel panic. It's because the Macbooks remember Headphone volume levels so there is some OS involvement.
