i just bought and started using a white 2ghz macbook.... im interested in upgrading my ram but do i need to do any programing after i swap ram or is it just swap and run and thats it?

It should be a matter of shutting the machine down, installing the RAM module(s), and then starting it up again. You shouldn't need to make any software-side changes. :)

Can you guys tell me the exact type of ram I need? I went on new egg and saw 2 x 1gb sticks (for $130 after rebate) that look like they would work but I wasn't sure. Also what are the number 4-4-4-12 or 5-5-5-15? How would I change these? Are Heat spreaders good? a confused person asks.

by the way I have a macbook 2 ghz

This is what you need:

Read the reviews, as several customers have left comments about their experiences using the various RAM in their Intel Macs.
