I feel like I have read about this in this forum, but I couldn't locate it on a search.

My new Macbook 2016 is having USB problems. It always works for charging, but sometimes it won;'t mount an attached drive. This happens sporadically—when it is not happening, everything works and I can't recreate it. Then time passes, and the next time I try to attach a drive—nothing. This happens with an Anker USB-A to C adapter, and with the Apple multiport adapter—when this is happening, nothing works.

I checked diskutil and Disk Utility, and it's like the USB port isn't there. I have to restart, which then fixes it 100% of the time...until the next time this happens.

I just tried resetting SMC and NVRAM, but beyond that I don't know what to do. Has anyone else experienced this?

I experience this sometimes as well. It's annoying and I figure Apple will get it fixed eventually. Since I really don't do a lot of USB stuff with my rMB it hasn't been a big issue for me.
