I have a external HD that works over usb 2.0 when I run test on the mac to make sure everything is ok I always get 100% but every day I use itunes or any other app that requires use of my external drive about couple hours later my hard drive would disconnect saying hard drive removed message on macbook what is going on?

Is your MacBook running on battery? Maybe it disconnects as to stop powering the drive via USB to conserve it's own power.
