My parents recently bought a brand new macbook. They wanted to hook up their macbook to their Samsung to be able to watch movies etc. Now they managed to buy a macbook to VGA cable, and then accidentally bought a DVI cable to plug into the TV. They, now confused, asked me to go and figure it out, so I simply bought a VGA to DVI converter. To clarify, from the TV their is a DVI cable running into a DVI to VGA converter, then a VGA cable to the macbook. Now the macbook won't recognize the TV nor will the TV recognize any input sources. When I click the detect displays button, none appear. Is it the DVI>VGA converter? Is there some simple fix, or should I just go out and buy a VGA cable (the TV has a VGA input) and ditch the DVI and converter set up I have now?

To put simply you can't convert VGA to DVI with just an adapter. Just use a VGA cable or get a DVI adapter for the MB.
