I have decided for travel purposes I need a laptop.

I hate the new Alu MacBooks. It is either a MacBook White or iBook G4

Where would I even start with getting an iBook :p

Everyday teenage things. IM, Internet, Photoshop etc

Well internet and IM will run fine on the iBook but the Photoshop stuff may require the extra kick that the MacBook provides, so I guess it depends on how much you use Photoshop and other more power-hungry apps. If you only rarly use Photoshop and/or only use it for basic things then the iBook should be fine.

The iBook G4 is 2003 technology. It's now 2009. I've got an iBook G4 and it's tired. It was snappy with Panther, fast enough with Tiger, but Leopard just drags it down. Go with the MacBook and you'll be a lot happier.

If it's only being used for internet and IM mainly then he just shove Panther on there and it'll be fine.

Get a MacBook, an iBook is a dead end. Apple and Adobe have stopped supporting PowerPC and most software applications will follow.

True, but sooner or later he'll want to plug-in an iPhone or iPod touch or some other hot new device that needs Leopard. Actually, I won't be surprised if the next updates to the iPhone/iTouch require Leopard at a minimum, no more 10.4.11 support. Apple makes lots of $$$ by forcing such upgrades on its customers. :apple:

Get the G4. I wrote a whole scientific paper, including editing huge images and charts, on my PowerBook G4 with Leopard over the summer and it handled everything perfectly.

Remember, people have been using Photoshop long before 8-core, 8gb RAM machines were around. It's not really that demanding of an application.

Don't forget all the porn I will be downloading

I think I might go for the MacBook

DivX porn is totally fine for G4's but if you want to watch flash-based porn sites, you'll have trouble.

I honestly don't see why anyone would still want to buy a PowerPC Mac, unless you're getting it for practically free.

This is reason #1. My sister has a G4 ibook that does everything she needs, she was running 10.3...but when she got a Christmas ipod she was forced to upgrade. Leopard will be required soon.

Get the White MacBook. Also, if you are not a photoshop pro, you could use the GIMP, which is quite similar but uses much less resources.

BTW:To save space for your porn you should get a good video converter, one which supports the Matroska (mkv) video format. Since normally the videos will be in the flash (flv) format, in mkv they will be like half the size.
