Recently Ive been having an odd issue with wireless connectivity on my MacBook. When starting or waking from sleep, it will connect to my home network just fine, with signal strength in the menu bar and internet connect. However, after a while (anywhere from seconds to several minutes) the signal will drop to 2-3 bars in the menu bar and 4-5 (out of 15) in internet connect, and the internet is unusable (attempts to ping the wireless router have 100% failure) The network preferences pane still lists the computer as connected to the internet.
Another MacBook and an iPod touch have no trouble connecting to the network from anywhere in my house, and changing the network channel, encryption level and router power setting have not helped. I didnt install/remove any software immediately before this started occurring. Turning airport power (on the laptop) off and on doesnt work; after doing so, the computer can see the network but cant join it.
The hardware involved:
2.0 Ghz MacBook Core Duo (June 2006) running 10.4.11
2Wire 2701-D Wireless modem/router
I didnt see any threads that described this exact problem (the complete inability to ping the modem)
Any help of any sort would be greatly appreciated.
