My wife's macbook will turn on, it stays on the gray screen with the apple. After a while it will just shutoff. I have tried removing the battery and holding down the power button for 5secs but did not work. I also reset the pram and also did nothing. Any guess on what it could be? Any input is appreciated.

Possibly a hard drive issue. Try booting up to the original system disks and running Disk Utility.
