MacBook Will Not Connect to Hotspot

My wife has a 13" MacBook Pro Retina and a 4.7" iPhone 6. Sometimes when she turns the personal hotspot on and then tries to connect to it from the MacBook, it fails to connect. She will have to turn the hotspot off/on several times before she is finally able to connect to it. Has anyone else experienced this issue? If so, what did you do to correct it?
