I am considering buying my first Macbook. I was surprised to find out that the $1,099 version comes with a DVD/CD-RW drive. At this price point wouldn't you expect a DVD burner which is standard these days?

Do you think they will upgrade this at Macworld?

It's not impossible, but they have a history of keeping DVD burners out of the lowest spec systems to prompt upgrades to the next level. I expect that to change eventually... maybe in a few weeks.

It does read DVD's, I wouldn't expect a DVD Burner until Combo drives are more expensive.

Yeah, its pretty annoying that you can't upgrade just the optical drive... but that's how Apple makes so much money.... Looks like you'll have to either spring for the high-end MB or just use an external DVD burner.
