I have the new macbook and I have always used my macbook with a mackie speaker to play music really loud at parties and stuff. Recently the speaker sounds like crap, but only when plugged into the macbook...it sounds great with the IPOD. I am using the exact same cords, but it just sounds bad! Are there any settings on the new macbook that may have been changed that would make the output sound fuzzy and bad?

In iTunes, under the "Window" label, click on Equalizer...then make a custom setting for your Mackie Speakers.

I have my MacBook Pro connected to my Yamaha HS 50s (powered Monitors) via a 1/8" to 1/4" 5 foot wire with no sound issues at all.

make sure the volume on the macbook is at a medium volume,

if it's too low, and you have to crank the amp on your speakers way up, it will sound fuzzy with hiss

if it's too high, it will probably sound distorted.
