Someone gave me an original Early 2006 MacBook to look at. 2 GHz Core Duo, 1 GB of RAM. The hard drive is nonfunctional and sounds like a clock ticking during boot, the SuperDrive cannot read DVD-RWs, the palm rests are rather discolored with a chip missing on the right, and the LCD intermittently flickers (bad inverter?), has a yellow tint with the default “Color LCD” profile, and appears to have two sizable scratches. The battery is not recognized in a working MacBook.

I managed to boot it off a USB hard drive and installed TechTool Deluxe, but it’s hung on “Scanning Volumes…”.

Is this computer worth repairing?
