Hello everybody,

I recently bought a Macbook, and I've been trying to connect it to my external Samsung SyncMaster P2270 screen using a DVI-to-miniDVI adapter from Apple. It works, both as extended or mirrored screen, but the maximum resolution I get is 1600x1200 (and I actually use 1600x900, cause it looks distorted otherwise).

Any clues on how to get it to output 1920x1080? I'm sure that the screen supports that resolution, because I've used it before with another laptop.

Any help will be really appreciated. Thanks!

Did you buy the current MacBook or an older one?

Did you try SwitchResX to see, if you can change the resolution to 1920 x 1080? And what resolutions can you see in System Preferences >>> Displays for that external display?

Thank you very much for the answer!

I bought the current macbook. And I had no idea about that program switschresX. I gave it a try, but still not working. I tried adding a custom 1920x1080 resolution and also setting that value as "default resolution" but in both cases I was still obtaining 1600x900. I also rebooted the machine.

As I said before, on the settings panel I get 1600x900 and 1600x1200 as the highest options. I also get many more with lower quality. I'm currently stuck to 1600x900.

Is there any chance that a VGA-to-miniDVI adapter can perform better than the one I have and give me the resolution I want?

Just to make sure, do you use a "mini-DVI to DVI" or "Mini DisplayPort to DVI" adapter? If you use a current Mac, it should be the latter. What about bringing the MB to Gravis or any other Apple Authorised Repair Shop and see, if it works there?

Sorry, you're right! It's miniDisplayPort-to-DVI...

Yeah, I think I'm taking the MB tomorrow to the store to see if they can help. And I'll give a try to the VGA adapter as well.

Thank you again for the help

Cheers
