macbook wont reach loggon screen

So i woke up today and turned on my macbookpro and it started loading up then it freezes the screen goes green/black and a message comes up that says to restart computer. I tried looking on the forums and other places online and couldnt find an answer for the problem. Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated because i dont want an extremmly pricey paperweight on my hands.

Do you get the Mac 'chime' when you first start up?

Hold down the option key right after you boot up. Then make sure that you have the correct startup disk.

yes it does chime then the wheel spins for a while and eventually freezes and says to restart, tries holding option to use right system, that didnt work wither, thanks for the help so far
