I have a 2008 13" Macbook that all of a sudden won't read discs of a certain format. It won't read empty or written CD-R or DVD-R. It does, however, read regular DVD's (I tested a few movies on there.) What seems to be the problem? I'm hoping it's not a hardware issue...

ive this for a while now, thing is, i dont use the optical drive often so not much of an issue, as soon as put in a re-writable disc of any kind it spits it back out straight away. after about 3 or 4 attempts it will spin the disc up and i am able to use it.. never had it solved by apple, just one of those things.

Still sounds like a bad optical drive to me, despite the fact that some moron at Apple couldn't figure that out.

One of the things we've learned is that if a customer says their optical drive is bad, then it is, even if it works fine for us. If we say it's fine, it always comes back.
