I'm trying to figure out where alll the superiority lies in my new M1 MacBookAir.
It doesn't start up faster, in fact it is slower to start. It doesn't run my drawing programs noticeably faster. When it has to do anything that involves a password, the rainbow wheel crank and cranks which really slows down one's momentum.
The power plug, either the socket or the cord is now very lose and has to be wiggled to work.
I retired my late 2012 MacBookAir because I needed more storage and I though this one would be so much faster. I'm very disappointed.
I keep reading about how superior the M1 is. Did I get a lemon?

My M1 MBA gets to the login screen (after a cold boot) in 12 seconds.

What you are describing is not normal, especially for a new M1. How long have you had the M1, and did you set up as new or migrate?

are you talking about from a complete shut down? My m1 login screen is ready before I get the cover open after sleeping overnight. I assume you meant from a shut down but just checking 😅:apple:

Yes, from a complete shutdown. It was set up completely new. No migration.
I've had Macs since 1984. I'm getting fed up with this one.

I just tested my M1 Air (twice). 28 seconds from complete shutdown to the login screen and 7-8 more seconds to be fully ready to use.

Startup time is definitely faster than my 2013 Air, but perhaps not substantially. Everything else loads and runs noticeably faster. I love it.

Looking good to me! Not only is the CPU faster, but the M1 has a fast NVMe SSD which helps with file processing, and the neural engine/GPU also help. Are your drawing apps running under Rosetta 2 (or not using the GPU)?

I have tested the start up time on my three weeks old Mac Book Air M1 8/8 16 GB RAM 512 GB SSD. I took 37 seconds until the user account appers.

At the beginnig i think it was 20 seconds.

But i´m very happy with it!

Your unit sounds as though it has both hardware (loose connector) and software (password hassles) concerns. You're covered under AppleCare, and you can contact Apple to have them resolve the issues. The M1 Air is a great device and major upgrade from the Intel configuration. I hope Apple can resolve the issues you are experiencing.

Do you mean my unit? Why? I have no problems?
