Hello everyone.
Although i have been following for quite a few years, it is my first time here at the forum.
I am a mac user since 2008 and already had several machines. Because i am a photographer and do a lot of photography editing, i usually upgrade my Macbook Pro in 4-5 years cycles. At this moment i use the MacBookPro for all the work at the office and outside while travelling.

At this moment i have a Mid 2014 MacBook Pro and i am considering if it makes sense to upgrade since this machine is still great.

MacBookPro Retina, 15-inch, Mid-2014
2,5Ghz Intel Core i7
16GB 1600 DDR3
Geforce GT750M 2048MB
Intel Iris Pro 1536MB

I am considering the possibility to move to a 27' iMac for the office and a smaller less powerful MacBook for traveling. It might be the same budget as a powerful MacBook Pro and in this case i will have two machines.

New Macs are just around the corner (a new Macbook Air?) and possibility new iMacs soon.
I am not sure if i should keep this MacBook Pro for a little longer and update only when new iMacs arrive.

All suggestions and ideas are very appreciated.
Regards to everyone!

If it still works for you there's not really much of an incentive to upgrade honestly. But since you're interested in a more portable Mac, you could continue to use your MBP as a desktop and then use the upcoming new MBA on the go.

I've got a 13" MBP of the same vintage with an i7 and aside from iffy battery life, it runs like an absolute champ. Maybe if the new MBA is compelling enough I'll upgrade, but for now I'm doing just fine.

I am curious to know how older MacBook Pros keep up along the years... is there any study about the longevity of MBP?

I am really curious to see the new MBA...
