MacBookPro can't find external Time Machine anymore

New to Mac World and Forum
My Mac can not find the time machine anymore even so it is connected with the USB and the time machine shows the light that it is connected.
When I click on the Time Machine icon it asks me to set-up the Time Machine. It worked well until 12 July. How can I find the TM again and start updating again? Thanks for the help.
