So I use other monitors with my mac book pro on a regular basis...is there a way to make my other monitor that I plug in via DVI the primary monitor? So all my menu's and docking station are there? and the macbook pro itself acts as a secondary?

Depending on which generation you have; if you have one that is previous to the current gen you can just hit F7 till you get the desired arrangement. Otherwise go into system prefrences and you can decide which monitor to make your primary monitor.
