ever since i updated my firmware and then reinstall my original ram into my laptop, its thinking really loud! is there any possibly of it doing so?

As far as we know, the firmware only affects the fan operation. Are you sure it isn't the fan that has become loud? If it is truly the HDD, 2 thoughts come to mind. (1) It was there before, but you didn't notice. (2) Coincidence for the timing, and the HDD may be going bad.

Same problem here.

Something is now making a continuous whirring noise. Is it the fan or the hard drive? I mean, it really is continuous.

This noise absolutely was not there prior to the firmware installation. Kind of annoying, really. I wouldn't have installed the firmware thing if I had known that this was going to happen.

What you describe sounds like a fan.

The drive would make a sharper noise that wouldn't be quite as constant.

Is the firmware just included in those updates from apple? Because I've got a MacBook it's quiet, and I want it to stay that way.

The firmware is called "SMC Firmware". It is by itself and upgrades the embedded software in the computer. It cannot be combined with any other update. If you think it might make your fan louder, just skip it.
