Totally missed this post! Been/was a customer of MacHighway since 2006 when it was called Itsamac powered by Mac OS X Server and Mac Pros + Xserves. That was the whole reason for going with them. Loved them and their support! Also spent time with Server Logistics that were later bought out by Premier Innovations in 2010. They colocated and powered everything through Xserves, Mac OS X Server and Linux. They even continued with Xserves powered by Linux for web hosting. Another great company I loved.
Back to MacHighway... Fast forward to the last few years... Missed being totally fried and burned by Deluxe (after the founders of MacHighway sold it) like many customers experienced, when Deluxe did that horrible move that practically killed the company and caused people in support, that had been with MacHighway since the beginning, to almost have a break down. The incompetency of Deluxe was unbelievable and must have set records somewhere. Many lost everything with not even ashes left over. It was really bad!!! On my server, it was just a 4-5 day outage which was a blessing compared to what others went through.
So I have been with them through all the ups and downs and now to the recent HostPapa buyout.
HostPapa has been providing faster and a more stable environment since Deluxe handed the servers over. They originally wanted to just force everyone over to their own packages but I wrote them and explained that us MacHighway users don't want that. I also told them that they needed to warn us in advance if they planned on ditching our current MacHighway plans and completely moving us over. Like 6 months or more and nothing last minute since some of us had been through a lot of trama over the whole ordeal. Looks like I was not alone and they backed off of that idea, thus far. They keep trying by offering their own packages etc. Looks like there are many of us that are not interested in migrating over to the new plans. They even upgraded the infrastructure/servers for us. Much better.
HostPapa's own packages are like going back to the dark ages (email wise), a separate mail server with only 2GB per mailbox max and the web site on another server. Similar to what it was like with MacHighway back in the late 2000s using Mac OS X Server. It made things easier to maintain and more stable. But this is 2025 with linux and cPanel and I use anywhere from 4-11GB per email account easily with no issues. That was one of the features of the big move from Mac Servers to Linux back in 2008 that MacHighway touted. And it only got better and more stable as cPanel matured (so one can have over 2GB per mailbox). The actual date Itsamac/MacHighway stopped offering Mac powered servers was around August 20, 2008, according to my email records.
HostPapa also keeps trying to move me to a VPS plan after they realized I couldn't move to their shared server hosting. I keep turning them down and re-explain everything. Just did again this week. I think they got the message this time.
