I have bought a Mac Plus that used to be either a 128k or a 512k and I don't know for sure because the serial number by the Brightness Knob is gone and the bottom of Mac also does not have a serial number. How can I find out if its a 128k or a 512k. Also, Is there anywhere else to find the serial?

You could check the back - a picture of the back will actually be telling. But to really know, you'd need to turn it on and see, or take it apart and look at the motherboard. As you say, it could have been upgraded or whatnot. Looking at the guts or watching it run are the only ways to know for sure.

If it has been upgraded, then the back panel was very likely replaced to account for the different port layout. Not really any way to know for sure, since the 128K and 512K used basically the exact same chassis, and any parts that were different between the two models were nearly guaranteed to have been replaced during the upgrade. (The Analog board, for example.)
