Hi everyone,

what's the icon of the disk "Macintosh HD" on a completely new Mac mini M4/M4 Pro?

Can someone post a screenshot? Finder / Go / Computer / right click on "Macintosh HD" and then "Information"

I used migration assistant from my old iMac and have this:

Thank you!

Copy any image to the clipboard - click on the icon symbol in 'get info' window, top left - paste.

Thanks for the info, but unfortunately it's not possible for the main hard drive. The "Cut" option is greyed out. Perhaps because of missing/different permissions with Apple Silicon / MacOS Sequoia. Also tried booting into safe mode.

The support document from Apple is here:

Got it. You have to delete the file /System/Volumes/Data/.VolumeIcon.icns

This can be done with your admin account (e.g. your main user). You can do this with finder and say go to folder and point to "/System/Volumes/Data/.VolumeIcon.icns" . This should display this hidden file in finder and then you can delete it. Terminal should also be possible.

I found the M4 Mini icon:

/System/Library/Templates/Data/System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Library/CoreTypes-0021.bundle/Contents/Resources/com.apple.macmini-2024.icns

Thanks I found icons for my iMac. I thought it always had this grey HDD and now an orange one because it's running from an external drive.

Can I change the icon for one external drive too? This file doesn't exist there and when I try to change the icon by just dragging it in the upper left corner of the drive info, the green dot with a white plus appears but nothing happens.

I switched to the root account and there I could just drag it into the info window and that file is now also there.

The home icon changed too. There wasn't any before. 🙂
