Hello...

I have been using MacJournal the past nine years...

To my horror today...I could'nt open MacJournal and I see in Library, only files from 2013 are there.
I made changes to 2016 3 weeks ago.

My questions is how should I go further?

Is there a terminal code to find the last day I made changes?
Is there a way to adjust something so the files get back?

I have TimeMachine but the last backup is from March 2016 and it ddin't backup the library files !!! :(

So I am pretty desperate now... Is there any good recover apps???
Would it help? Should I try out DiskDrill?

Hope hope hope someone can help me.

I just need to know the best steps I can do. Thanks so much.

Thanks

:)

In the Preferences of MacJournal, on the Security tab there is an option for backups (separate from Time Machine). Did you enable that and if so, did you check the folder location it points to for your missing data?

Hello! Thank you for your attempt to help.

It said ----------------. No luck :S.. The files in this folder is from 2013...

So did you specifically exclude the location of your data from Time Machine backups? By default, Time Machine will back up everything on the local drive.

I'm sorry to hear that. If you don't have it backed up in Time Machine or the app's backup location, the chances of recovery are slim. You could search for a data recovery company and take a chance that they might be able to recover the data. I've never used one and have heard that the service can be pricey and results are not guaranteed.

I used to use MacJournal years ago, but I lost everything as well
I use Day One now and couldn't be happier

Sorry about your loss, and I hope you are able to recover :(

It's no consolation I'm sure, but I had a catastrophic run-in with MacJournal, leaving many of my files scrambled or missing. Still haven't found a replacement; I'm using Nisus Writer for most entries now.

Hello everyone.

I truly appreciate your help.

I add a screenshot of what my MacJournal folder looks like. However the MacJournal Data info file says it was changed the last time may 7 2016 so I assume the files are still there...!? I am not able to open it properly though.
In the MacJournal folder, I have three MacJournal Data files, it says MacJournalData then MacJournal Data (5.1.1) and MacJournal Data (6.0). And backups folders. Everything in this folder is 4GB so I assume the files from 2016 is still alive and not complete gone. At least I hope...

However I copied the files and tried to install a new MacJournal on my newer Macbook and I CANT find MacJournal in ~/Library/Application Support/MacJournal/Backups (folder) - but it is in /Group Containers /
J5L75SL484.com.DanSchimpf.MacJournal

So I am not able to open the older MacJournal files on the new Macbook.

How should I go further?

Thanks

Eva

I realize this doesn't help you now, but in the future I suggest you also keep a bootable cloned backup drive created with either CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper.

Very easy to "reach for" in a moment of extreme need!

Hello again

Thanks for all the responses and suggestions!

The latest news;
I right clicked "MacJournalData" and then clicked on «view content» it shows 365 RRT files!!!
I was able to find text files from 2016 there.... Seems like all the files are stored there. Puh

How can I recover the 365 rrt files directly back to MacJournal? It is a pain to recover because the 365 files have names like ee32748326fdf4.

I have emailed MacJournal about it.

Thanks
