The following is a post I recently sent to MacJournal forums:
Again for the second time I've had work erased during a MacJournal sync.
Both sync error events were consistent: Both involved an extant file that was synced & up to date on both my iMac and my iPod Touch. Then after extensive work on that article on the iPad Touch, I synced. All my work I had done was simply erased during syncing. About 1,500 words, hours of work disappeared.
After that I went to the iMac's App Support to MacJournal folder, and found the MacJournal backups. They did not show the new work I had done on the handheld. Of course, that would be in the handled backup folder. I went to that folder & found one handheld backup file. I opened that backup, went to the article in question, but none of the new work I'd done on the handheld (those new 1,500 words) were there. From the MJ app I found Browse Backups in the menu. I searched with that. Nothing. Poof! All that work gone, erased by the MacJournal sync. You got a bug, fellas; and it has hit me twice.
MacJournal has a bug. If you work *extensively* on a file on the handheld device and then sync, MacJournal sync simply erases the new work on that file on the handheld device. SimpleNote / Notational Velocity never did that to me. MacJournal does.
Note I never touch my sync prefs: They are always set to "Sync Mac and handheld journals." Likewise I never work on files while syncing is in progress. I do not turn off or put the iMac to sleep during syncing. Moreover, check my signature where you'll find all my OS versions are reasonably up to date.
I'm sad, angry & frustrated. I feel like going back to the SimpleNote / Notational Velocity 2-step. At least it's reliable and safe.
