Hi all, I'm gonna buy a 15'' rMBP today and I could not decide whether to go with amazon or macmall. Macmall has this AI discount and the price is like 60$ less than amazon. But I read a lot of bad reviews about them and I wonder if anyone has bad experience with macmall in this forum?
Any help is appreciated.

I've never had a problem with MacMall but I can't imagine returns and exchanges would be as easy as they would with Amazon.

I got my 15" rMBP from MacMall just last week. It came in a timely manner and I didn't have any problems with the order. I did contact customer support to get tracking information, and they sent it to me immediately. If you want, you can check out with Amazon, so if there's a problem, Amazon will cover the cost of the computer. MacMall is the best, and their computer is also cheaper, so I'd go with them.

So did it come in a bare retail package or brown transportation box ? I read some issues about this, some people got their MacBooks from MacMall in a bare retail package.

I'm wondering this too. I'm getting the sense that $100 off is probably the best you can do on a custom config latest model Macbook on Black Friday, so this looks like a good deal. But a bare retail package sounds sketchy.

MacMall

I live one block from Macmall in Santa Monica. Have not been to an Apple store in years as a result. There tech support is insane and never had a problem with them.

I've purchased a number of MacBook Pro's over the years @ Mac Mall, and never had any issue. The computers always come in a brown shipping box with the standard retail box inside - they have special foam/cardboard pieces at the corners to isolate the retail box inside the brown shipping box.

When you compare the sales tax savings and the Appleinsider discount, the price is definitely hard to beat.

I've never had to exchange one with them, so I can't vouch for their customer service in that situation.

I wouldn't hesitate to order a computer from them...

Thanks! This is what I needed to know.

The only 2 other questions I have:

1) Is this Apple Insider discount MacMall's actual Black Friday discount (seeing how it expires November 30)?

2) Has there ever been a Black Friday discount on a new custom config Macbook higher than $101?

macmall awful.

I ordered a new 13' mbp 16 GBRAM 512 HD on 10.28. I have been given 4 delivery dates since I placed the ordered. The first delivery date I was given was Thursday Oct 31, yesterday i was told earliest delivery is November 14. No updates on web or via email from macmall unless i call them. The discount etc was nice but not sure if it is worth it anymore.

I tweeted about it yesterday; they responded and looked into it. That is when I get the 4th potential delivery date.

The MacMall discounts seem to renew at the same rates after the expire dates. They don't seem to change much month to month, unless there is a new model or something. For example two 13" MBP's I priced in June have the same discounted price listed today.

Custom config machines are difficult to get discounted. When i ordered my Early 2011 15" MBP with a special config, it seems like the MacMall discount was the only discounted price I could find.

The MacMall discounts are good enough that I wouldn't expect them to change much on Black Friday, but that is just a guess...

Well, if you're receptive you can purchase it from BH. It's really according to your needs: MacMall gives the discount and BH gives Parallels for free. Both are tax-free in lots of states. So it's pretty much up to you.

I actually ended up ordering a custom from MacMall a week ago. After I put in the order, a salesperson emailed me to offer Parallels free (via rebate) and Applecare at $50 off (I don't remember seeing these when I initially ordered online). The computer shipped today. Fingers crossed.

You mean you'd pay for Parallels and they'd refund you right away?
And is AppleCare of any use if you take the computer outside US?

MacMall doesn't process returns as fast. You most likely will wait an extra 1-2 days. If that bothers you, stay on Amazon.
