So, I have this mini, and no one at the apple forums have described this problem, I have googled for it.

Anyway, sometimes the mini will make a sound like the HD is spinning like a friggin circular saw, the fans will kick up, and it completely hangs. It most often happens when in screensaver mode.

It happened last night while using Safari. WTF?

Anyone have any ideas?

Err, are you sure that that's not the normal sound of the cooling fan when the CPU is busy? Because a hard drive making that noise suggests hard drive failure and that can cause hangs.

I've done the usual fixes, but none have worked. Repair permissions, reset PRAM, etc. RAM checks out okay.

No, the noise is not usual. I mean, it sounds like it's trying to kill itself.

I dunno, maybe I'll take it in to Apple this weekend.

Could very well be something in the hard drive grinding on some lose piece of metal or something. Sounds like a tpyical case of hard drive failure to me.
